The Story

Over 98% of life on Earth is smaller than a bee, yet we often reshape the planet as if it revolves around us. The Extraordinary Caterpillar shifts that perspective, revealing how these tiny, overlooked creatures quietly sustain entire food webs.

Through stunning macro imagery, naturalist Sam Jaffe of The Caterpillar Lab uncovers a strange and beautiful hidden world. Experts like Doug Tallamy and David Wagner warn that insect populations are rapidly declining, while communities in Toronto — including youth from EcoSpark and local gardener Amanda McConnell — show how restoring native plants in our own neighborhoods can rebuild fragile ecosystems.

The film reminds us that protecting biodiversity doesn’t begin in distant wilderness, but right outside our doors.
