About Kaven
Kaven Daigle spent 15 years as a military police officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. During his career, he served on missions in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Central Europe, and the Baltic States. Now, he is passionate about creating spaces for veterans of all generations to openly share their stories and experiences. Kaven also has a special place in his heart for individuals with Down syndrome and autism. Through his Second Cup franchise, he has supported these communities by creating meaningful opportunities through special programs. His dedication to inclusion aligns perfectly with our core values.
When we reached out to Kaven Daigle, he responded without hesitation. Although he is unable to attend the event in person, he generously offered copies of his book to support our initiative. His kindness and commitment to sharing the stories of veterans are deeply appreciated.
About the Book
While every soldier has their own unique story, all share powerful collective experiences. These intimate accounts, courageously told as they were lived, offer a unique perspective on each individual’s journey as well as on Canada’s commitment to global security for more than a century.— The Honourable Roméo Dallaire, Lieutenant-General (Retired)
In service of national security and global peace, members of the Canadian Armed Forces deployed on missions bear witness to horrific tragedies, and at times, become direct targets themselves. They often return home deeply scarred, having left a part of their soul in the war zone. Why did they enlist? How did their missions unfold? How did they experience their return home? Why do so many struggle to reintegrate into civilian life?
This book brings together the stories of 30 soldiers and veterans, many of whom are sharing their experiences for the first time. It bridges the gap between the little-known military community and the civilian population, which does not always understand the sacrifices made on its behalf.
